Mick's Mail

Matthew Reed, Franklin Park, NJ: With the heavy onset of penalties in this last beat-down against the Eagles, do you think there will be a heavy focus on correcting this for this week’s game against the Vikings? Correct me if I’m wrong but there were four penalties just in the red zone alone.

Mickey: Penalties are never good, especially when you have a total of 14 for 112 yards and eight of those are on the offense. It’s never easy to regain yards, especially on the road. But look, I can clear up three of those penalties real quick. Ken Hamlin, use your head, and not to hit a defenseless receiver or a player already out of bounds or head-butting an opponent. The delay of game is just one of those things, and Jason Witten’s illegal block down field was just a second too soon on the bubble screen. There, I’ve cleared up five already. Funny thing about these penalties, though, the Cowboys now have a 9-2 record when they have more penalties than their opponent. Go figure.
