Kevin Kelley, Somerset, NJ: Is it just me or are both Mike Jenkins and Anthony Spencer developing by the week, especially Spencer? He is not getting the sacks, yet, but he’s knocking down and or getting a great amount of pressure on opposing quarterbacks seemingly every drop back.
Mickey: You are correct sir on both guys, but I think their improvement has been equally noticeable. I’m starting to sense quarterbacks are not throwing at Jenkins as much because he’s doing such a fine job covering and now leads the team with two interceptions and would have had a third if not for a ticky-tack defensive holding call on Gerald Sensabaugh. Spencer has been active as ever, and is pretty versatile on the strong side after taking over for Greg Ellis, who is having his knee scoped in Oakland this week . . . And by the way, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers sliced into the Cowboys’ eight-man practice squad on Tuesday by signing rookie cornerback Mike Mickens to their 53-man roster. Players on the practice squad essentially are free agents and can sign with any team if being placed on the 53 man practice squad, where they have to remain for a minimum of three weeks. Mickens was a seventh-round draft choice out of the University of Cincinnati who never showed in four preseason games he was ready to play in the NFL, not even on special teams.
