Ken, Bruceville, Texas: Wade had to be fired. A change had to be made, but don’t you think this problem was more on the players? They just took advantage of his laid-back demeanor and too many of them developed poor attitudes and work ethics. They got Wade Phillips fired through their own actions, and I’m not seeing much of a change with Jason Garrett, do you?
Mickey: Pretty perceptive there, Ken, because I do believe with a long leash the players did take advantage of Wade’s trusting attitude, but on the other hand he should have known that at times you have to make a stand, and one before it’s too late. As for Jason Garrett being more of the same, I think you are going to be surprised. Garrett has some, as I like to say, some vinegar running through his veins. He’s a lot tougher than you think, and even more demanding, and that will surface now that he’s in charge and not working under someone else. I think most assistant coaches are afraid to step out further than the head coach does out of respect, and when Jerry Jones says Jason has the “temperament and disposition” to affect a culture change, I think he couldn’t be more right. You watch. But then again, with only eight games left, already 1-7, no starting quarterback and now a decimated defensive line, will this be a fair trial?
